Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Note the unusual carved device of combined letters at the right hand end of top rail, again this would appear to be original carving. Simple shaped arms raised on turned front supports. Over a board seat made from two long oak planks with a patch repair at the right hand end of the rear plank. With a fluted apron below the seat and turned front stiles joined with a low stretcher at the front and sides. The numbers 12/92 are carved on the rear of the backrest, quiet possibly recording the date (December 1892) of the remodelling of the piece. Very good condition, solid and sturdy with particularly good colour. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Dimensions: width 79", depth 23", height 39½".
Year: c.1890
