A Large 19thc French Patinated Spelter of 'Cavalier Arabe'

Description

'Cavalier Arabe' . A large 19thc French patinated spelter orientalist group c1880. After Emile Guillemin and Alfred Bayre. The Arab huntsman mounted on an Arab stallion with dead game, the base cast with the signatures 'Barye Fils' and 'Ele Guillemin'. This figure was modeled by Emile Guillemin with the collaboration of Alfred Barye and was cast at the foundry of Alfred Barye.

Height 80 cm, Width 64 cm and Depth 32 cm

Emile Coriolan Hippolyte Guillemin (1841-1907) was a French artist and sculptor. His sculptures incorporated themes of orientalist aesthetics.His work is reminiscent of other mid 19thc European sculptors including Jef Lambeaux, Marcel Keline and Auguste Rodin. He showed work at the Paris Salon from 1870 to 1899 including this work, his most famous.

Alfred Barye 'Barye Fils' (1839-1882) was a French sculptor of the Belle Epoque and a pupil of his famous father Antoine-Louis Barye, one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the 19thc. He specialized in the production of 'Animalier' sculptures as well as oriental subjects. His most famous work is his collabaration eith Emile Guillemin on this work the 'Cavalier Arabe' for which he did this Artwork
