For the Connoisseur, a Superb and Rare 36 Drawer Brady Collectors Cabinet. Circa 1900.

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare and superb 36 drawer collectors cabinet in solid mahogany by brady of edmonton, one of the most famous if not 'the' most famous collectors cabinet makers of all time.

Brady is known throughout entomological circles as possibly the ultimate cabinet maker in this specialised field. He was a private man who did not fit makers plaques or labels to his cabinets but whose classic trade marks bore witness to the identity of the maker. I have not found his methods of construction successfully copied. The profile of the door glazing mouldings, the side panels, the 'male/female frame seal fittings to the drawers and, perhaps, most commonly recognised, his dove tail, sliding top naptha cells marked him and his products out from all other makers. Brady is reputed to have turned down commissions from the rich and famous in favour of making cabinets for the relatively impoverished if they happened to appeal to him...what a wonderful way to be able to do business!

Brady worked through the last quarter of the 19th century and finally appears to have ceased production in the 1920's.

This example is a 36 drawer model, all variations were available, 10, 12, 20, 30, 40 and on up to a double brady with 60 drawers. I have encountered all these but only know of one or possibly two other 36 drawer cabinets. ( I am sure enthusiasts will be quick to inform me and I welcome this).

This cabinet is a fine example and has been in private ownership throughout it's time. It stands on the original bun feet, has glazed doors, the original lock and key and all fittings. The drawers are typically base lined with cork and a dove grey paper paper lining is well fitted to every drawer. All drawers move effortlessly as would be expected and there are no defects.

Obviously this cabinet will appeal to lepidopterists but will also serve admirably for the protection and display of a multitude of collectables.

All questions are welcome and safe delivery can be arranged.
