Boats In Harbour Oil Painting By Marjorie Mort (1906-1988)

Oil on board by Marjorie Mort (1906-1988) depicting boats at dry dock and in harbour, Cornwall. The painting is beautifully done capturing the Cornish light with a great use of colour and technique. The work is in excellent condition and has been professionally cleaned. The painting is signed to the lower left which is slightly obscured by the frame, it also has the artist’s label on the reverse and a charming inscription relating to the piece having been given as a gift.
 
Marjorie Mort (1906-1988) was born in Parson''s Green. Between 1924-31 Mort studied at the Manchester School of Art before furthering her studies at the Slade School of Art in 1934 and finally at the Westminster School of Art where she studied under Walter Bayes. Mort moved to Cornwall in 1938 where she met Eric Hiller and Charles breaker, both local artists and with them established the Newlyn Holiday Sketching Group in 1949.
