Superb Bracket Clock by Jean Baptiste Delettrez C1875

19th century
Description

Superb mahogany mantel clock by Jean Baptiste Delettrez C1875

~~ Excellent original condition throughout ~~

This is an extremely fine mantel clock by the premier french clockmaker Jean Baptiste Delettrez.

Delettrez worked alongside Achille Brocot for many years and their clock movements are considered to be the the best made during the late 19th century.

The case is made of mahogany which has a wonderful colour and depth of grain and this is complimented by the fine satinwood stringing around the front edge and also the shell motif in the centre. It stands on small brass button feet.

The white enamel dial is in perfect original condition with no chips or hairline cracks.

As you would expect from Delettrez it has one of the finest French movements that you will ever find, with fine Brocot adjustment fitted to the suspension which is adjusted by turning the small shaft which can be seen just above the 12 oclock position on the dial. It is fully marked with the trade mark JBD of Delettrez, and the stamp of the London Retailer C Duve' it is totally original and has just undergone a full and comprehensive service by Alan Williams of Plymouth Clocks, a Fellow of the British Horological Institute, so is in tip top condition and should give trouble free service for many years to come.

It comes with its original numbered pendulum and both keys.

It runs for over 8 days between winding and strikes on the hour and half hour on a small tuned gong.

This clock dates from about 1875 and has obviously been highly prized and looked after, the condition is a credit to its previous owners.

The clock movement comes with a full 12 month warranty.

Overall this is a superb condition mahogany clock by one of the very best 19th century clock makers
