This game has a wooden board which bears the designer's original signature to the outside. She had an exclusive agreement with the maker to individually sign each copy of the board game.
The outer catches and carrying handle are made of brass.
Mary Whitmore Jones was a passionate patience enthusiast who also wrote many books on the subject in the late 19th century. She designed this so that it could be used when travelling (The board is designed to balance on the arms of a railway seat) or when recovering from illness. She lived at Chastleton Country House which is now managed by the National Trust and they have her original The Chastleton Patience Board game on display.
A rare item that would make a wonderful gift for a card enthusiast.

Condition: Excellent used original antique condition with light signs of use in keeping with age and a wonderful patina. Some light surface scratches and small areas of wear to the outer case. Interior is excellent. Cards are later replacements.
