Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French triptych dressing mirror, historically known as a toilet mirror, is a three-panel tabletop mirror featuring a stationary central frame flanked by two hinged side mirrors. Originating in 18th-century France, the design allows users to adjust the outer panels to view reflections from multiple angles while seated at a vanity table.

These mirrors were constructed using dense European walnut timber for the frame, often decorated with hand-carved motifs like acanthus leaves and C-scrolls. The mirror panels comprised mercury-backed or silvered float glass, held together with small brass hinges and metal fastenings.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved detailing with subtle variations in carving depth, traditional mortise-and-tenon jointing, and original brass hinges. The reverse of the frame typically displays hand-planed wood backings, while the glass may show faint oxidation or silvering loss consistent with age.

Place the mirror atop a modern desk, console, or chest of drawers to function as a focal point in a dressing area or bedroom. The warm tone of carved walnut creates an effective visual contrast against neutral walls or contemporary minimal furnishings.

Dust the wood carving regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush to reach carved recesses. Apply a clear beeswax polish annually to preserve the timbers natural moisture, and clean the glass panels with a microfibre cloth slightly dampened with water, avoiding harsh chemicals near the wooden edges.
