Julie Cartwright Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Of serpentine form, the sides and cover embossed with pastoral scenes, cherubs and courting couples. The base with continental hallmarks, most probably Dutch. Peppermint boxes are of Dutch origin and the decorations are very much in the Dutch Rococo style.
