Japanese Mixed Metal Oni Group - Sano Takachika

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this high quality Meiji Period 1868-1912 bronze and mixed metal okimono that although unsigned we can confidently attribute to Sano Takachika, the humorous pair of muscular Oni stand upon a fitted lacquered base and wrestle with a huge glass ball above their heads,wearing only loincloths the artist has decorated one with a Leopard skin pattern with the other finely inlaid in various mixed metals , you will note the masks on the legs of the trunks as well as the gilt bracelet and anklets on each oni, a further trait of the model of a single oni by Takachika now housed in the Dr Naseer D Khalili collection, a fascinating humorous high quality mixed metal group for your Japanese works of art collection .
