Rare Victorian American Silver & Enamel Stamp Case

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

An unusual and rare Victorian American silver and enamelled stamp case. The case is in envelope form, however, does not open in the usual way - it is spring-hinged and opens at the corner which swings out to reveal the interior. The front of the case is enamelled in red with a George Washington 2 cents stamp and black cancellation mark applied over dated 6. 91 6pm New York (1891). It is also beautifully engraved ''H. H. Muller, Cincinnati, Ohio''. The reverse of the case is also enamelled with a received mark ''PO 6.1.91 Recd''

The interior of the lid is silver gilt and bears the mark ''June 24 90 STERLING''.

A wonderful stamp case for a Collector - The condition is very good (there are some tiny surface indentations commensurate with the age of this item and are mentioned for accuracy only - see images for verification).
