Here we offer, the most astonishing and beautiful, entirely hand coloured plate from a rare and exceptionally accomplished folio of European Butterflies created in 1867. This is the most extraordinary butterflies collection that we have ever presented with the plates being packed with the most intricate and wonderfully observed details, with most having more that three dozen components all coloured entirely by the hand of skilled artists working over several days. Each plate shows a family of butterflies and their place in the environment, with the botanical components hinting at geographical distribution. The plate also shows their variability, development and means of defense against enemies. The colours, tones, textures and intricate detailing is again simply astonishing, even considering the plate is over 150 years old already.
The lithograph is mounted in a luxury handmade, hand-finished and wonderfully gilded hammered wooden frame with a sophisticated linen subframe and a confidently proportioned decorated mount. A fine gold fillet has been added as a very sophisticated contrast for the plate. The frame is renaissance gold (the main face features thick foil incorporating real gold) and with good light this piece just glows, with a wonderful, deep and warm gold tone (even our professional photographs can't adequately capture the beautiful frame colour). As standard the frame comes with framer float glass however for an additional 25 (to be paid at the time of order) this can be upgraded to museum quality glass having low reflection, amazing colour and detail intensity and high U.V. absorption to protect the work. The archival acid-free materials and professional techniques used to protect and frame this work will ensure that it continues to be enjoyed for many decades to come.
A timeless and effortlessly sophisticated collection of highly decorative and professionally framed fine, rare, old and vintage hand coloured lithographs, chromolithographs, lithographs and etchings.
