Description

A delightful pair of mid-to-late 18thc hand coloured stipple engravings entitled The Cottage Boy and The Cottage Girl dating to c1775. They are mounted in good quality antique gilt wood frames, behind “verre eglomise” glazing (ebonised and gilded glass). The title of each subject (The Cottage Boy, The Cottage Girl) is printed in gilt in the ebonised glass, beneath each image. The pictorial style is typical of the mid18thc - - of high quality, precise detail and delicate colour. It is likely that the printer’s and painter’s names are engraved on the edge of each image but this would be hidden behind the ebonised glass. It would be a shame to open up the well sealed backs just to ascertain this. Best left and enjoyed as they are. As such, these engravings are in beautiful condition for their age.
