Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian drop-leaf dining table features a fixed central top section flanked by hinged side leaves that can be raised or lowered via swing-out legs or brackets. Originating in the 18th century, these designs provided flexible seating solutions for historic dining rooms.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense, fine-grained Cuban or West Indian mahogany. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were typically used for internal drawer linings and structural framing, secured with hand-cut iron hinges.

Authentic pieces feature precision rule joints along the leaf hinges, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and natural irregular shrinkage in the timber tops over time. Original oak or pine secondary woods underneath the top often show hand-planing marks.

When the leaves are folded down, the compact profile functions as a console table against a dining room wall or behind a sofa. Fully extended, it serves as a central dining surface paired with contemporary or period seating.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the patination. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish bleaching.
