Description
The Ersari were one of the larger Turkmen tribes who eventually settled in northern Afghanistan. Their weavers continued to make domestic artifacts well into the 20th century. This large chuval is a very good example of the work of the talented Ersari weavers. It has wonderful glossy wool and good dyes. The guls are well drawn and well-spaced. Note the attractive row of stylised plants in the elem. The kilim at the top end has been sewn under, a clear sign that this weaving was originally used as a large storage bag. In almost perfect pile, it has survived in remarkable condition, and even the original selvages and ends are intact. A very good size, it lends itself to being used as a decorative rug in many situations. FREE WORLDWIDE DELIVERY. All items can be viewed in my gallery .
