NEW PRICE - WAS £295. I am pleased to offer this wonderful work of art in the shape of an early 20th century silk satin ladies evening bag. Constructed of wood and carefully covered in a most delicate sea foam green blue colour silk satin complete with finely hand painted scene of a butterfly amongst foliage. The bag has a drawstring closure consisting of two fine silk corded tassels in the same ice green/blue colour. The painter has shaded one corner a darker blue which fades out over the bag front. I have never seen anything quite like it, simply amazing. The handle is shaped wood covered in silk and extends down both sides of the bag. The base is covered in a white embossed paper which covers the fabric ends. It looks like there used to be studs at each underside corner for the bag to rest on which are now absent. A wonderful piece, ideal for display with period costume or in a period setting.
Overall condition is very good, there is some scattered discolouration of the satin however this is more noticeable in the photos than in real life. A strip of wood is loose within the interior and I think it is supposed to sit on the base which is easily rectified once it finds its new home. This looks particularly lovely in artificial light where the silk satin glows and shimmers.
The bag measures 20cm wide by 24cm tall by 8.5cm deep.
