Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

The box opens to reveal a leather writing slope, with gold embossing and the top section fitted with various compartments incorporating a removal pen tray and two original inkwells with screw tops. One of these compartments has a pressure point which I will label for you so that you know where it is, otherwise it is hard to find. This point when pressed releases the sprung wooden cover hiding the three secret drawers, each lined in a deep red velvet.

There is plenty of storage for stationery or letters under the top section of the slope.
The box comes complete with a working key. Museum quality in excellent condition measuring 15" wide x 10" deep x 4 1/4" tall at rear while closed.
