A Mid Victorian Spaniel Pottery Money Box

This antique has been viewed 12 times in the past month with the most views from France.

This is a nice, old Staffordshire, Victorian dog's head, pottery money box c1870. The expressive, spaniel form is hand painted in yellow, orange and black with a chain, lustre collar and disc. These were popular during the second half of the 19th century and the only way of removing the saved coins was to break it open. As a consequence, there are not so many left today. This box is in good antique condition with no losses, cracks or restoration. Unlike later examples, it is finely potted and has a typical, all-over crackled glaze and a rough, hand-cut coin aperture. Please note that the photographs have reflected light intrusions.
Width: 12cm (4.75 inches)
Height: 10cm (approx. 4 inches)
Depth: 8cm (3.75 inches)
