Description

The 'bread sofreh' was specifically used for kneading the dough on tho prepare the flat bread or 'lavash' in Persian. This charming little sofreh, with its red field containing a beautiful 'abrash' or striation of natural madder, was made by Qashqa'i nomads during the early part of the twentieth century. The chevron ends are nicely drawn and as an old weaver once told me during my time amongst the Qashqa'i in the 1970s, such chevrons symbolised migrating birds.
