1940s Shield time trials ‘Richmond Timer’ pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has hacking which is operated by way of the lever button to the side of the case. The exact purpose of this is unknown but possibly time trials, we have seen examples of this watch with dashboard fittings.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chromium plated and the case back is stamped with the wording, ‘The Richmond Time Recording Co, Birmingham, No 558, 15 Jewel, Non Magnetic, Screw Back’. The ‘Screw Back’ statement is a bit of a misnomer as the back is a snap back. The case has general light surface marks but overall is in good condition for a 1940s piece.

The acrylic lens is in good condition with minor small marks.

The signed dial has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There are a couple of hairline cracks coming down from above number 12, but they are faint.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
