Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco lighting from the 1920s and 1930s is characterised by clean geometric shapes, stepped silhouettes inspired by ziggurats, and strong colour contrast. Designers favoured modern manufactured materials such as chrome, Bakelite, and frosted glass to produce streamlined, architectural forms.

During the 1930s, makers utilized early synthetic plastics like Bakelite and catalin alongside chrome-plated metal, moulded glass, and polished brass. Layered composite plastics allowed manufacturers to produce distinctive multi-coloured geometric patterns.

Authentic Bakelite pieces feature seamless moulding, geometric construction, and a substantial weight relative to modern plastics. Testing with warm water or friction often releases a faint carbolic scent unique to early phenolic resins.

Positioning an Art Deco table lamp on a neutral sideboard, desk, or bedside table creates an architectural focal point. The bold geometric lines and contrasting colours complement both minimalist schemes and eclectic, vintage-inspired spaces.

Clean Bakelite surfaces using a soft microfiber cloth dampened with mild soapy water, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or solvents. Ensure all electrical wiring is inspected and rewired by a qualified electrician prior to use.
