A super quality and naturalistically carved 19th.Century Black Forest linden wood bear umbrella stick stand. Retaining the original glass eyes with painted teeth, tongue and nose. The stick stand support of typical branch form and supported by the bears front paws. This wonderful carved bear was probably made in Brienz, Switzerland a small town with a population of 2400, of whom 600 people were employed as woodcarvers, to supply the tourist trade to Switzerland with mementos of the Grand Tour.
