Earth, sea and sky was a treasury created by Henry Davenport in 1887 which celebrated all that is wonderful in every continent of the globe, in the world of waters and the starry heavens. It allowed wide-eyed viewers to take thrilling adventures on land and sea, to explore the striking physical features of the earth, and to lift their gazes skywards and explore the amazing phenomena of the solar and starry systems.
Here we offer a wonderful well observed plate of a 'Flamboyance' of Greater Flamingos with their overall colouration of white with pink tints, red and remiges black coverts, pink legs, flesh-pink bills black at the tip.
Chromolithography is a unique method for making superb multi-colour prints which became the most successful method of colour printing developed by the 19th Century. The initial technique involved the use of multiple lithographic stones, one for each colour, and whilst extremely expensive was used for the best quality results. Depending on the number of colours present, a chromolithograph could take even very skilled workers months to produce and involve dozen of colours and layers.
This chromolithograph has been mounted and framed to a premium standard. The outer frame is finished with a luminous gold leaf, the mount is well proportioned and finished with a delicate gold fillet to achieve a sophisticated contrast framing for the works. The glass is museum quality with low reflection, amazing colour intensity and high U.V. absorption to protect the work. The quality acid-free conservation materials and expert techniques used will ensure your artwork is protected for the next 100 years of its life!
The framed lithograph is 48cm tall by 38cm tall wide.
