Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware is a style of Japanese earthenware ceramics originating from Satsuma province in the late sixteenth century. During the Meiji period, production expanded significantly to meet Western demand for finely painted, gilded decorative items depicting traditional scenes.

Traditional Satsuma ceramics feature a light, ivory-coloured earthenware body coated with a subtle crackle-glazed finish. Artisans apply intricate polychrome enamels and extensive gold leaf gilding over the glaze before undergoing a low-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces are distinguished by fine crackle-glazing, highly detailed hand-painted figures or landscapes, and rich gilding. Genuine historical items often feature painted red or stamped maker signatures on the base along with the Shimazu family crest.

Display miniature ceramics on a mantelpiece, curated bookshelf, or within a glass cabinet alongside minimalist modern accents. Grouping small gilded items together creates a focal point that highlights their delicate craftsmanship.

Dust gently with a soft, clean microfibre brush or cloth, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive materials. Keep pieces away from direct water immersion or extreme heat, as moisture can damage fragile overglaze enamels and gilding.
