Description

This ENGLISH BLUE & WHITE TRANSFER PRINTED STAND was made by JONES & SON, HANLEY, and was part of their BRITISH HISTORY SERIES and is entitled 'THE SEVEN BISHOPS CONVEYED TO THE TOWER'.

Coysh & Henrywood's Blue & White Transfer Printed Pottery 1780-1880 Volume 1 refers to JONES & SON, HANLEY, STAFFORDSHIRE (1826-1828):

"No details are available of the partnership which existed for a very short time. It did, however, produce a fine series of blue-printed patterns on a dinner service entitled 'British History'. The very high quality of these wares suggests considerable expertise in all aspects of production."

The Seven Bishops depicted were members of the Church of England tried and acquitted for seditious libel in 1688.

The STAND is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration.
