Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Top made from two broad solid padouk boards, symmetrically arranged and with a gadroon carved edge over a superb carved foliate frieze around the apron. Raised on a square tapering column with moulded upper section and lower portion carved with an acanthus plant motif, gadroon carved collar (old damage to one corner) and base. On a low four pointed plinth with particularly well carved scrolling acanthus leaf feet. The top can be tipped to vertical when not in use, locking flat with the original brass catch. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshop.
