Description
A glorious biscuit barrel made by esteemed Mappin and Webb company in circa 1880. The barrel is elaborately engraved to the front and sides and includes a blank cartouche, ready for personalised engraving. The hinged lid enjoys a discreet motif that surrounds the rim and is topped with a delightful pumpkin and leaf finial. It moves very smoothly and shuts tight and flush to the barrel. The barrel sits on a protruding base that stands on four splayed feet. Internally, it is spotless. There is a slight crinkle to the lid and some rubbing to the back of the barrel near the hinge where fingers have rested over the last 140 years. Absolutely commensurate with the age of the special piece. Please see photos for close ups. A wonderful piece for any collector.
