An beautiful late eighteenth century stipple engraving.
A young shepherd boy in a slumber on a grassy knoll is bewitched by a vision of dancing fairy elves on a hilltop in front of a full, misty moon.
An illustration to the poem “The Shepherd's Dream” from Milton’s first book of “Paradise Lost”.
Beautifully engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi (1727 – 1815) after a work by the English painter, illustrator and engraver Thomas Stothard (1755- 1834).
A good and clean impression printed on a wove paper in black ink in a vignette.

Within verre eglomise and a fine period gilt gesso and wood decorated frame with beaded sight edge and gadroon back edge. Both frame and engraving are in first class condition.
There maybe some reflections in the glass these are not faults.
