A 17th Century Hispano Moresque Lustre Glaze Dish

17th century
Description

A highly decorative lustre glazed dish circa 1680, decorated with a central panel of vines and grapes, then various bands and chain link design. The lustre was based on copper being used in the glazing process. Various decorators tally marks to the verso. Probably Manises Valencia Spain.

Various wear to the piece consummate with the age and tin glaze. There is a display hole drilled probably originally as there is good age wear to the rear. The front has three kiln stand marks where similar dishes would have been stood atop whilst fired. There is a hairline that is difficult to see other than on the verso (5 o'clock on the verso picture)
