Victorian Aubusson Tapestry Upholstered Stool with Harrington's Patent Castors

Description

A very pretty late 19th square footstool, with antique Aubusson tapestry upholstery, the square stool raised on turned mahogany legs and with rare Harrington's Patent brass castors.

John Harrington of Ryde, Isle of Wight and London, is better known for his patents for bicycles however he also developed and patented wheels and ball-bearings for roller skates prior to patenting furniture castors. This influence can be clearly seen in the unusual 'double wheel' castors on this stool.

In excellent condition, the seat of the stool is Aubusson in shades of pinks on a pale green ground, with pale green velvet around the sides and with rope trim.
