An Extraordinary bronze sculpture of two German Shepherds, Alsatians. This is signed L. Carvin Circa: 1920. Statue is huge measuring 16 inches tall, by 28 1/2 inches wide by 9 inches deep. A Lovely black veined marble base and amazing detail. The artist, Louis Albert Carvin, 1875-1951 (French). Louis Albert Carvin was a French sculptor, born in 1875 and died in 1951. He was known primarily for his sculptures of animals. He worked in bronze and terracotta. This extraordinary sculpture of two German Shepherds are old style, usually called Alsatians. Signed L. Carvin and with a stamped foundry mark. The term ''Alsatian'' originated in Western Europe after the war, since anything ''German'' was not looked on favourably by England, France, etc. The English, to this day, call German Shepherds ''Alsatians.''
