He was known primarily for his sculptures of animals. He worked in bronze and terracotta. This extraordinary sculpture of two German Shepherds are old style, usually called Alsatians. Signed L. Carvin and with a stamped foundry mark. The term ''Alsatian'' originated in Western Europe after the war, since anything ''German'' was not looked on favourably by England, France, etc. The English, to this day, call German Shepherds ''Alsatians.''
