A exceptional pair of 17th century oak backstools, originating from the Yorkshire/Derbyshire area .Decorated with split turnings and carved scalloped back supports and having scrolled finials this true pair of backstools are great examples of their type . An identical example of this pair of chairs can be found in( Early British Chairs and Seats 1500-1700 by Tobias Jellinek) The example on page 303 plate 420 is a chair in the Aston Hall Collection.
