Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were first developed in France in the early nineteenth century by horologist Abraham-Louis Breguet. Designed for travellers, these portable timepieces were built to withstand movement while retaining precise timekeeping throughout long journeys.

Carriage clocks traditionally feature a brass case, which may be gilded or polished, alongside bevelled glass panels that reveal the internal escapement. The dial is typically made from fired white enamel with black Roman or Arabic numerals.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature heavy brass construction, bevelled glass panels, and a platform escapement visible through the top window. French makers often stamped movement plates with trademark serial numbers or country of origin markings near the base of the dial.

A brass carriage clock works well when styled alongside leather-bound books on a shelf, placed atop a fireplace mantelpiece, or positioned on a desk. Its compact footprint and polished brass aesthetic provide a classic metallic accent within both traditional and contemporary schemes.

Keep the clock in a dust-free environment away from direct heat sources or high humidity. Clean the brass casing gently with a soft microfibre cloth without harsh chemical polishes, and have the mechanical movement professionally serviced and lubricated every three to five years.
