Silver 1923 Buren pocket watch and chain.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement, signed Buren, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 45mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop so smaller than a standard 50mm pocket watch. The case is silver and there are British hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1923, with a case maker’s mark for William Sparrow (he worked for H Williamson, importer of Buren watches, and was in charge of hallmarking imported precious metal cases). The case is in lovely condition.

The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, George White of Christchurch.

George Thomas White originally traded from Taunton in Somerset, England but later emigrated and was later listed as a watchmaker, jewellery manufacturer and importer trading from 208 Colombo Street, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Therefore, it seems the watch was manufactured in Switzerland, imported into the UK and then wholesaled to Mr White in New Zealand. The dial is in super condition.

The watch comes with a single chain, 19cm long including the T-bar and the clasp, stamped ‘Sterling’ and ‘925’.

The watch and chain will come in a new presentation box.
