Atropos Antiques has dated this piece to the 1850s.
This lovely press is not over large as can often be the case so will serve in many normal homes. There are three slides and two short and two long drawers below.
The proportions are perfect and the finely figured honduras mahogany all in good polished order. Quarter round ebony moulding to the panelled doors and an ebony string to the top. The drawers all carry the original ebonised knobs. Original lock and key and shoot bolts to the left door.

The press section is removable from the chest for easy transport, delivery and installation.
Very often the slides are removed and the upper section easily set up to contain hanging clothing perhaps more suited to modern life. The drawers below are deep and capacious.

There is a provenance note attached to the right hand door giving a considerable and quaint history of the piece which adds to its attractions. So seldom can the history of a good antique be traced even a little way back.
