A beautiful small antique French portico clock retailed by the famous Maple & Co of London. Very well made in white marble and ormolu (finely gilded doré bronze). Neoclassical in design, four delicate Corinthian columns support the top with anthemion cornice. The clock hangs between the columns with the pendulum swinging delicately below.
A lovely little clock, rare in this small size, could be placed on a desk or small table. The delicate dial is porcelain enamel on copper with finely cut and blued steel hands.
The French movement is by Vincenti and is of excellent quality.
It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled and tested. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video to hear the bell and watch the clock running.
Condition of the case is excellent, the gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. Marble is in excellent condition, some discolouration and some tiny nibbles to the edges. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage.
