A charming oil on board of The Dowdeswell Pike, an enormous female pike which was found floating on the surface of the Dowdeswell Reservoir, five miles to the east of Cheltenham in 1896. The pike, which is one of the largest ever recorded, was 4 foot 6 inches long, with a maximum girth of 23 inches.
The painting is in a birds eye maple frame with a gilt slip inscirbed ''The Dowdeswell Pike” in black lettering. The back of the painting is also inscribed in hand written ink “Dowdeswell Pike, 60 lbs”, and the painting is inscribed “Dowdeswell” at the bottom.
Condition:
In good condition, with some marks to the paint and frame commensurate with age.
