A deeply patinated, heavy and finely made piece of bespoke leatherwork - this trunk was the property of William Cutbush of Barnet, who was the owner of Barnet Plant Nurseries and died in 1876.
The trunk has subtle tooled floral motifs all over, presumably in reference to Cutbush’s profession. The trunk opens to reveal a fitted cloth lined interior with two compartments, one having a tooled red morocco leather pouch.
On the edge of the trunk is a brass nameplate finely inscribed ‘Mr Wm Cutbush. BARNET’, which can have a label inserted via the hinging tab on the side.
