An exceptional and beautiful Sheraton
revival figured satinwood sewing table.
of the highest quality
Overhead shaped carrying handle with
brass bosses over a top consisting of
two lift up flaps revealing two silk
lined compartments, in turn over a
sliding pale gold coloured pleated and
braided silk pouch. The pouch and one
of the flaps bear a label for
"Bernhard Stodel, Antiquair, Amsterdam"
Extending down to a caned lower tier with
a pierced brass gallery.
All supported by splayed tapering legs.
In superb condition except for the silkwork
which we have left as is.
Provenance: The renowned art gallery/antiquair
of Bernhard Stodel that has much history, in particular
in WW2 when Stodel was forced to hand over
the gallery by the Germans to another of their choice,
but he was able to reclaim after the war.
The sewing table had also previously been in the
stock of a high end dealership in London

Stock for the shop largely comes from local people and is usually fresh to the market. Topsham is a delightful small town heavy with Dutch influence and was the main port of Exeter in the 19th century. There is easy access from the M5 motorway.
