Mid Century 1.50 Carat Black Opal & 0.91 Carat Diamond Drop Earrings, Circa 1960

1940 - 1960
Description

A striking pair of black opal earrings. Each earring is topped by transitional cut diamond in a four claw collet, linked to a small oval shaped black opal, to a rubover set old mine cut diamond, to a larger black opal. Although both of the larger opal have matching black background colour and incredible plays of colour, the pattern on each slightly varies; one presents broader, ribbon-style flashes colour; the other more of a “pin-fire” effect. A wonderful and dramatic pair of earrings.

Accompanied by an independent jewellery report by IGR (#30309515).

Cut – Oval cabochon opal. The top diamonds are transitional cuts, the middle diamonds are old mine cuts.

Colour – The diamonds are G to J.

Clarity – The top diamonds are I1. The middle diamonds are SI1.

Carat – The top diamonds are approximately 0.37 carat each, with a total approximate diamond weight of 0.91 carat. Each of the larger opal is approximately 0.60 carat, with a total approximate opal weight of 1.50 carat.

Circa – 1960.

Measurements – The earrings are 34.5mm carat long.

Metal – 18k white gold. Tested.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
