Antique English Egg Cruet for Six by Elkington & Company - 1903

Description

A quite exceptional example of an Edwardian egg cruet in silverplate, the quality is evident and when turned upside down is understandable when the famous silversmith's name can be found for Elkington & Co, producing top-notch and highly sought-after silverware.

The stand sits of four cast lion's paw feet supporting the highly decorative tray pierced or reticulated all around and the rim finished with fine scroll work. The egg cups follow through the pierced work, quite unusual and beautifully gilded on the inside.

The underside has the full Elkington hallmark and the letter R dating this piece to 1903, Edwardian in period.

There are six spoons, each fitting into a slot to produce this elegant centrepiece. The spoons have beautifully decorated handles and a central vacant cartouche to each for monogramming if desired.

A superb set in excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" tall and the tray measuring 9 1/4" x 7".
