Rue des Fontenelles has dated this piece to the 1910s.
He studied at the Academy of Antwerp and at the Academy of Mechelen. He had a preference for landscapes, figures, realistic nudes, classic portraits, interiors, still lifes, flowers, seascapes and cityscapes. He used impressionist, smooth brushwork, fresh and rich in colours.

Lemmers fled to Portugal during the second world war where he continued painting but died there in 1944. He is mentioned in the Belgian art books and was an international famous painter. He has works on display in the museum of Brussels, Sint-Joost-Ten-Node, Bruges and Antwerp.
He is well listed at auction and commands good prices.
