Antique English Pewter Multiple Reeded 15in Dish By John Batcheler, Bristol 1676-1708.

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Antique Pewter

Description:

Antique English pewter multiple reed dish of almost 15 inch diameter by John Batcheler of Bristol, England, who worked 1676-1708.

Attribution of the touch mark to John Batcheler is recent, earlier sources attribute it to John French III as is shown by the collectors labels to the reverse.

The dish is very well made with deep cast multiple reeding to the outer edge, The rim also bears a scratch engraved or wriggled X, or maybe crossed quills. (see close up image). There is also a single incised line around the bowl of the dish. The reverse has the worn touch marks now attributed to John Batcheler. The booge is very well hammered as can be seen in the close up image.

Condition:

The dish is in good condition with a polished finish to the front, there are some knife marks to the front showing signs of use. The reverse is unpolished with some light oxide.

Repairs: There is possibly a very old small repair to the reverse rim, but I can not be sure of this.
