Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

18th-century Georgian oak chests of drawers typically feature solid English oak construction, a two-over-three drawer arrangement, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, pine or oak drawer linings, decorative crossbanded inlay, and pierced brass backplate handles resting on bracket feet.

Craftsmen during this period utilized solid oak as the primary timber, often incorporating fruitwood, walnut, or mahogany crossbanding for decorative borders. Construction relied on hand-cut dovetail joints, planked backs, solid wood drawer runners, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display signs of hand-planing, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, age-appropriate shrinkage to timber panels, original cast brass hardware showing hand-finishing marks, and natural patination within the wood grain.

Pairing a heavy dark oak chest of drawers with neutral wall tones, contemporary artwork, or minimalist glass lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design elements.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent wood shrinkage or inlay lifting.
