Hammond was a painter of landscapes, animals and rural scenes.
Hammond was thought to be based in and around Birmingham for most of his career.
He mostly used oil paints and specialised in painting pleasing rural scenes, often containing depictions of the country way of life and recording its customs.
While his work is very popular and held in numerous private collections, he also exhibited at Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham (40 times) and the Manchester City Art Gallery.
Many of his paintings have been auctioned throughout the UK and USA with listed titles including: “Feeding the Chickens”, “Return from the Field” and “A Farm Lad droving Cattle along a Country Lane”.
