Description

Remarkable Art Nouveau salon suite of pair of open armchairs and matching two seater settee with original covers c.1900. Beechwood frames, the high backs with upholstered panels between shaped and carved rails and fluted rear stiles with scolling tops. Curving bentwood arms with applied armrests, fluted fronts and an interesting organic carved detail at both ends. Unpholstered seat pad with cane bases on crisply turned and fluted tapering legs joined with bentwood hoop stretchers. Amazingly the suite retains what woud appear to be the original covers, a beautiful Art Nouveau floral patterned velvet in the manner of William Morris. Badly faded and heavily worn and marked on the seats (though no holes) the backs remain serviceable and the original colours are still strong on the rear. With a repair to the front rail of the seat on the settee. Otherwise good original condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
