A smart and useful piece of Victorian library furniture, having an adjustable mahogany reading stand, with two brass page stays, on a telescopic brass column and a cast iron base with four paw feet.
This works very well as a music stand or a reading stand.
The back of the mahogany book rest has a maker’s label which reads ‘THE LITERARY MACHINE - CARTERS - TRADEMARK - 2-6 NEW CAVENDISH ST. - 125-129 GT. PORTLAND ST. - LONDON, W.’, and below this is an impressed number 89546.
Condition:
Generally in good condition, but one splinter of wood missing from the back of the mahogany book rest, and a split down the seam of the inner part of the telescopic part, which doesn’t affect function.
Dimensions:
72 cm to 130 cm high x 56 cm to 68 cm wide x 34 cm deep
