Antique Silver Caster.

Description

Early Victorian silver caster; of octagonal Ashburnham pattern, this super quality caster is unusual for two reasons in particular. Firstly, casters were plentiful in Georgian times and very popular from the late Victorian period onwards; there were not too many made in this early Victorian period. Also, the Ashburnham pattern (originally commissioned by the Earl of Ashburnham in 1747,) was only attempted by the very best silversmiths (Sprimont, Storr, Hunt & Roskell, Hunt and Mortimer) due to it's demanding nature.

This piece is in fine condition and would be a great addition to any collection.
