A fine 18th century primitve west country comb back windsor chair. Constructed from Elm and fruit wood with a one part arm and has a real primitive feel in places. Traces of original green paint with a fresh coat of polish to finish it off. This is very grand in size; generous proportions overall making it an important chair in the house. The elm seat is figured well and is very pleasant to sit on. Your sat with your arms apart feeling very open and relaxed. The one part steam bent elm arm support in very solid with some wear to one of the sides. Its very hard and no movement. Most likely sat in a barn for sometime. The legs are solid and original. The spindles are very interesting, made from a fruit wood most likely cherry with some contorted due to green wood being used creating a sculptural piece. The comb is steam bent with 3 decorative lines carved along the face. A working chair that was used in a working house but very sound and very comfy to sit at in the modern world.
