Framed Georgian reverse painted glass print, portrait of Mrs Brooks, circa 1750. Entitled in the reserve 'Mrs. Brooks' 'C. Spooner Fecit' 'Printed for Jn Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill' Mrs, Brooks the wife of the engraver John Brooks, who was a celebrated beauty, this is one portrait of a number of variations, adaptations and copies by various artists and engravers. This engraving by Charles Spooner, ( Fl. 1720-1767). Although quite scarce, an identical image to this is, in mezzotint form, is held in the collection of the national portrait gallery London. In good, sound condition, with some crazing of the varnish but the image is well attached to the glass with no distortions. Original ebonised moulded frame with granular gilt slip.
