The watch has a seven jewel stem-winding movement, grade 290, which is working nicely. This particular grade was in production from 1904 until 1933. Our movement has the serial number 15,551,868 which dates it back to around 1911.

The movement has beautifully patterned plates and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and was made for Elgin by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company. The case originally had detailing to both the front and back but this is now quite rubbed from years of use.

The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover, it does not spring open as it would originally have done. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in lovely condition.

The signed dial with beautiful hand painted detail is the real star of this show, and the design is quite unusual with the lower numbers being upside down, usually the numbers are the conventional way round below 3 and 9. Lovely ornate hands, a sunken subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. The condition is good, just a short faint hairline crack by number 7.
